With the start of a new year and a new decade we can feel renewed in our desire to seek recovery solutions for our family – as addiction is a disease that impacts an entire family system.
The work of change is necessary to see entrenched patterns of behavior give way to positive patterns of recovery. It takes courage to enact change in an addiction family system, but once begun we experience freedom from destructive patterns and thinking.
The Serenity Prayer, written by American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in 1951, has helped guide countless seekers on the path to find new ways of living for themselves and others.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can.
And the wisdom to know the difference.
